About the event
This gathering marks the turning of the Yorùbá year through a Bembé honoring Èṣù/Elegbára, guardian of crossroads, movement, and beginnings.
A Bembé is a communal devotional celebration rooted in song, rhythm, and collective presence. It is a time when the community gathers to honor the sacred through drumming, chanting, movement, and shared energy. Rather than instruction or formal ceremony, a Bembé emphasizes participation, continuity, and recognition, allowing devotion to be expressed through sound and togetherness.
The day opens with a devotional divination for the house, grounding the work in clarity and alignment before celebration begins. Following a shared meal, the community gathers for òrò with the drummers, offering rhythm, voice, and presence as the new cycle is announced and welcomed.
This is a public observance centered in devotion, music, and communal acknowledgment. Donations are welcome in support of the drummers, offerings, and the continuation of the work.
