What is ase/ashe?

The Yoruba understand that the Supreme Being's immortality exists through what is known as ashe (or ase). Ashe can be better understood as the raw energy that acts as a universal power or building blocks concealed within the universe. Ashe is the backbone for all ideologies, such as reincarnation, karma, blessings, evolution, etc. Every living thing has its very own kind of ashe within it and this energy is interconnected with the energy of Olorun. Ashe itself provides us with some kind of God-given talent or ability bestowed upon us by the divine. This is the consciousness of what the Yoruba understand of God.
