What is a divination?

Every ritual act that the Lukumí in-acts has their origins in one of several thousands of patakis known in the corpus of odu. Patakis provide stories that relate to the orisha and their character and they provide much of what we know for our models of moral and ethical behavior, in addition to the ritualized system that we use in worship. In divination, Odus are patterns used to help predict the patakis that need to be stated to a devotee in order to reveal the conversation between an orisha and that devotee. Other concepts that support our spiritual practices include the use of herbs, orisha shrines, sacrifice, and ritual sacrifices.
